Wheel of life
The New Year has begun, bringing the exciting future.
No matter how hard the past, you can always start again…
How was your year? Good or bad?
What 3 words can describe the past year?
What events were the most important?
What made you proud or happy?
What was giving you a trouble?
What have you learned or achieved last year?
Have you made a significant change for the better?
What was a success and what was a failure?
Don’t avoid confrontation, don’t be afraid to admit what went wrong…
This self-reflection is a valuable source of self-knowledge and a step to self-improvement.
When making a summary of the last year, look holistically, connect the facts and events, like you connect the dots. And write it down in a diary or a project application.
How was your diet, physical activity, plans, meetings, challenges, personal development, hobbies, leisure activities, books you read, films you watched?
Are you happy with your look, hair, clothes, health, intellectual development?
Is everything all right in your family, love, work life?
Revise your last year’s New year resolutions (personal and professional), reflect and prepare new goals.
BE POSITIVE AND EXCITED ABOUT IT – NO JUDGEMENT OR REGRET
Have you heard about the WHEEL OF LIFE?
It is a visual tool that’s used in coaching to assess your work-life balance. It aims to explore individual spheres – private, professional, spiritual – and check how they affect each other, which one is worth investing in more and which one – you can let go a bit.
You can use the wheel to summarize your past year. Draw or print a wheel and colour each part of it on a 1-5 scale, showing your satisfaction in the following aspects of life:
Personal development
Career
Finances
Fun & leisure
Family
Health & fitness
Friends
Standard of living
You can change or add 2 more categories of your choice, eg. education, relationships, spirituality, independence, security, religion, self-esteem, leadership, service to others, achievement, prestige, creativity etc.

After you finish, ask yourself what do you see and is it compatible with what is most important to you? Which aspect of your life has the most impact on you? Which one needs to be ‘dealt with’ to make you happier? Where to start from and what steps to take? Write it all down.
Set your long-term and short-term personal and professional goals. Your goals should be realistic but not too simple, if you want to develop. What’s important: for each goal, plan a project – write some specific steps to start with and the next actions.
And now, celebrate the New Year – a treat, a bubble bath, an episode of your favourite show…
GOOD LUCK!
